Education

In the wake of ongoing reports of a considerable number of uneducated cases among the young population in Erzurum Region and needs for a high school based on Turkish Education System Features, Nevzat Karabağ Anadolu Teaching High School was constructed by Mr. Osman Karabağ for memory of his deceased and honorable father in 1997.

The aim of the Project is to improve the young learners education level and to increase their sense of self-esteem via education; and to encourage them to take an active role in their development and in this manner developing sustainable, alternative models that can spread over the region.

At Nevzat Karabağ Anadolu Teaching High School, young girls and young boys are trained to acquire a number of skills and study in the discipline of Turkish Education System.

In the future, as inspired by this success in Erzurum, EMTA aims to open more schools and educate and train increasing numbers of young girls and boys in towns with low-income populations; by our charitable support.

Environment

TEMA Foundation’s primary goal is to raise public awareness about the dangers of desertification resulting from widespread soil erosion within Turkey. The pursuit of this goal involves informing and lobbying governments, national representatives, political parties, educational institutions, official and private organizations, and the media. Accordingly, TEMA aims to create awareness among political parties that future access to power may rely on finding solutions to the erosion and the degradation of natural habitats currently taking place in Turkey. To further the potential electoral impact upon political parties, TEMA is also working to raise public awareness of the effect of soil erosion.

TEMA considers soil to be one of Turkey’s most precious resources and therefore pursues the implementation of a state environmental protection policy, which is necessary for the adequate protection of forests, grazing land, agricultural land, water and plant gene sources and the prevention of soil erosion. The achievement of these aims can only be possible with adequate human resources, technical equipment, organization and financial resources.

TEMA also aims to slow migration trends, whereby there is a significant population flow from rural to urban area, by increasing the productivity of agricultural lands and providing the population with an economic incentive to remain in rural areas.

Objectives
• To help the protection of natural habitats and health within the country, combating soil erosion, protection of soil and vegetative cover, education, raising public awareness and consciousness over soil erosion,
• To ensure that policies concerning the protection of natural habitats are created by the governments, that needed legal regulations are made, in order to create effective public support by informing and increasing public consciousness over soil erosion,
• To promote social responsibility toward forests and the environment in the community,
• To ensure the protection, improvement and establishment of natural habitats, human health, green lands, biodiversity, soil and vegetative cover and forests, To protect and ameliorate the pastures which are the major resource for livestock,
• To ensure Turkey’s future by protecting natural resources from unconscious and unsustainable use, thereby preventing the exhaustion of the natural resources,
• To start a model action in combating against soil erosion in Turkey, and to inspire the implementation of similar actions in other parts of the world,
• To work for the conservation and amelioration of natural habitats, green lands, soil and vegetative cover , pastures, the health within the country,
• To establish the necessary organization and legislation in the leadership of voluntary organizations in order to achieve the cited goals for combating erosion.

Environmental problems are mainly caused by human activities. To eliminate the human activities resulting in environmental degradation is only possible by creating a knowledge-based society through educating people.

TEMA believes that a strong education policy and program is vital in creating a conscious public, aware of the serious environmental and economic threats posed by environmental degradation like soil erosion, deforestation, climate change, loss of biodiversity. TEMA’s education program is centered around making optimum use of exciting education tools and resources, focusing on teachers training, curriculum building, student field trips and adult education. TEMA, in order to train educators, actively collaborates with Armed Forces, Ministry of Education and Directorate of Religious Affairs and organizes 5 days seminars for officers, teachers and prayer leaders.

Moreover, TEMA organizes seminars, panels and conferences in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Interior, General Directorate of Security and universities. TEMA representatives organize educational activities in different cities. So far, more than 2 million people attended TEMA’s various education programs. Each year during the months of July and August nature and erosion summer training camps are organized for TEMA representatives, prayer leaders, teachers, voluntary educators and university students where attendants are trained practically and theoretically.
